Taken from Longford Bridge 10 this photo shows the original site of what we now call

This arrangement meant that most boats travelled an extra distance on each canal allowing both canal companies to charge higher tolls. The old boatmen must have cursed at the canal companies as this would have added at least half an hour of time to their journey as well as creating extra charges.
