End of the St Helens Canal
End of the St Helens Canal
The footbridge carries the towpath across the top of the Old Double Locks, a two lock staircase at the junction marking the end of the main line of the St Helens Canal which continues to the right to reach the River Mersey at Widnes.
Straight on, in the picture, is the Blackbrook Branch extending to the north, and to the left, behind the camera, is the Gerard’s Bridge Branch towards St Helens.
