The steps on the footbridge are steep for the pedestrians but it grants good clearance for boats to pass underneath.

There’s very limited clearance under the modern Layerthorpe Bridge and the steerer will have to duck, reducing their ability to see the right hand curve just afterwards to pass under Foss Bank Bridge of similar restricted height.
