The New Main Line of the Birmingham Canal Navigations (BCN) is wide and straight. At this point it is generally at the natural ground level.
Further ahead, towards Wolverhampton, it becomes raised up on an embankment above ground level while towards Birmingham, behind the camera, it passes through a deep cutting.
Note the heron on the right hand towpath, watching for the movement of fish disturbed by the passing of our boat.
