Brentford Junction to Bull's Bridge Junction

This section of the Grand Union Canal Main Line runs from Brenford Junction with the River Thames to Bull's Bridge Junction with the Paddington Arm.

It is 9.7km (6.0 miles) long with 12 broad locks.

The Route

The short section from Brentford Junction to Thames Lock 101 is tidal and can only be navigated when the tide is in.

Between Thames Lock 101 and Brentford gauging Locks 100 it is semi-tidal, and rises above its normal level at very high tides. Clearance under the bridges is reduced when this happens.

The remining locks conitnue the climb towards the summit in the Chilterns.

The route is through the suburbs of London and urban in nature, although providing a green corridor popular with walkers.
