A footbridge, raised higher than the original towpath level, allows walkers to continue their journey along the Hollinwood Canal. The fence on the far side, just above the vehicle, is around 1m above the normal water level in the canal and there isn’t adequate headroom to reinstate the canal on it’s original alignment.
Fortunately the motorway is sloping downhill to the left and it looks possible to re-route the canal a little to the left to gain adequate headroom for a new aqueduct.
