Bottom of Runcorn Old Locks
Bottom of Runcorn Old Locks
The bottom of Runcorn Old Locks leads onto the Manchester Ship Canal, having previously joined the River Mersey before the ship canal was built. While restoration of the link to the Ship Canal through the bottom pair of staircase locks would be possible it seems likely that restoration efforts will be concentrated on the top four pairs to provide the link between the Bridgewater Canal and the Runcorn & Weston Canal.
