Canalway Cavalcade

Bank holiday Monday was our first trip to the Canalway Cavalcade at Little Venice on the Grand Union Canal in London, near Paddington.

The weather was dull and overcast with occasional light showers, and not conducive to encouraging visitors to come out.  The free entrance certainly could not have been putting anybody off attending.

Despite all that I was surprised at how few people there were around the site.

Lots of bunting on the boats and a few boaters around, but not many visitors.

Just look at the shots of the stands below.  One with attentive stallholders waiting for customers but nobody even walking past – and I didn’t wait specially to catch a moment with nobody there.

At the bottom right the passers by aren’t even looking at the stand and the stallholder isn’t even trying to engage with the passers by.  Hopefully it was better on other days when the sun shined.

  1. Hi
We went on Sunday and it was heaving – I wish we had left it till Monday as well.

been following your blog for a while since we passed going the other way round the four counties ring

  2. Thanks for the info Maggie – if you’d come on Monday you might have appeared in one of our photos for your chance of fame.

I wonder if you appear in our Four Counties DVD. Can you remember where you passed us, there’s a good chance that you appear (briefly) in our Bowcam DVD of the Four Counties.

Please introduce yourself if we should pass again somewhere.

  3. Hi Paul.
Thought I would come an have a nose at your blog. It is very good. I will add you to our links, if that’s ok?
Unfortunately Monday was quieter in the morning due to the weather, but it did get busy during the afternoon. The best day’s were the Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was the best Saturday they had, had in years. It was completely manic. We have certainly never seen so many people at a festival. Sunday was pretty much the same. I know that Keith and I almost talked ourselves horse. It made for a really enjoyable weekend overall. We are now heading to the Rickmansworth Festival. Kind regards. Jo

  4. Monday was defintely quieter than both Saturday and Sunday. Both of those days the towpath in the pool area where we were moored was heaving. There was a safety issue with the possibility of someone getting pushed in, but amazingly it didn’t happen, more by luck than anything else.

  5. Jo & Keith: Lovely comments, it seems we chose the quiet day, yet still managed to miss seeing you somehow.

  6. Hi
You managed to take a photo of my favourite stall (Wey Valley Cakes). Also a photo of me on the work tug Lenny (I am in high vis, there was a cool breeze on Monday)! It was the rubbish run

I will be leaving Ricky shortly to help site services there.
Don’t be afraid to say hello if you see me.
    Regards. Adrian
